The architectural photography assignment
Definition of assignment
The scope of the assignment e.g. indoor or outdoor photos, details, important materials and perspectives, various light conditions, dusk and night shots etc. must be defined in advance. Equally the type of use. The clear definition of the assignment is the basis for the cost estimation.
Development of assignment
There are three phases:
- Pre-production
- Production
- Post production
Pre-production encompasses among other things: discussion of the assignment, viewing, agreement of appointment and preparation of photography location.
Careful planning by the client and good communication between client, photographer and owners/users of the building guarantees maximum productivity on location.
The most important questions are:
- Is the property finished and/or in a state which allows a meaningful photograph?
- Is access to the property, inside as well as outside, possible throughout the duration of the whole shoot, and have all persons involved been informed (owner, renter, security guards, maintenance and cleaning personnel etc.)?
- Will a special authorisation be necessary for the photographs?
- Does all the lighting equipment work?
- Is access to the light control and dimming control or sun protection possible?
- Are construction or maintenance works planned inside or outside?
Production encompasses the actual photography including the times of arrival and departure.
With high end digital photography (33MP) we are in a position to produce picture data with the quality of a 4.5 x 6cm diapositive.
Post production
In the processing and finishing process each picture will be dust retouched and contrast and colour corrected under normal light conditions, on calibrated monitors. According to the situation retouching or picture composition will be carried out. Finally, the photos will be saved in a defined RGB colour space and taken for long term archiving.
The photo’s that come out of this will be published on our website www.architekturfotografie.ch..
